
PROBLEMS CONNECTING TO
THE RLP NETWORK MAY BE DUE TO ACTIVEX PERMISSIONS
If you update Windows you may find that you are not able to log in to
the RLP network via agent.rlpottawa.com in Internet Explorer. To
resolve this do the following:
If you are using Windows XP:
- 1. Open up Internet explorer
- 2. Click on Tools
- 3. Internet options
- 4. Security
- 5. Custom level
- 6. Scroll down to the field that says “allow previously unused
active controls to run without permission” and select the enable radio
button.
- 7. Click apply
- 8. Close all windows and try logging in
If you are using Windows Vista:
- 1. Steps 1-4 from windows XP
- 2. Uncheck the box labeled “Enable protected mode”
- 3. Click apply
- 4. Close all windows and try logging in
If you still cannot connect:
- 1. Click start
- 2. Programs
- 3. Accessories
- 4. Remote Desktop Connection (note on some computer installations it
may be in the communication folder)
- 5. For the computer name type agent.rlpottawa.com
- 6. Click options
- 7. Click local resources ► more
- 8. Check the drives box (this should map your local drive to your
terminal session) Click ok, then click Connect
- 9. To add a shortcut to your desktop go through steps 1 – 3
- 10. Right click Remote desktop connection
- 11. Select send to ► Desktop
(create shortcut) This will then put a shortcut on your desktop
Using the RDP connection helps reduce any problems connecting remotely to
the RLP network.
